Ishchenko grabs Russia`s first gold at World Aquatic Championships
Synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko has brought Russia its first gold medal at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai.
ґThe 25-year-old claimed her third successive world championship swimming solo technical title.
The Russian scored 98.30 points, beating home favorite Huang Xuechen by two points. Spain`s Andrea Fuentes grabbed bronze, with 95.30 points.
"I think my opponents are waiting for me to retire," Ishchenko told RIA-Novosti news agency. "However, nobody has told me to my face yet. Now the main motivation for me is London 2012, after which I`m likely to finish my career."
"I`m basically satisfied with my performance today. But it`s too early to relax. There are still many days of competition remaining," she added.
The 11-time world champion, Ishchenko, is also competing in the pairs and team competition in China, with Russian fans hoping she?ll add more golds to her haul.
